You sold your hand as a 2♥ WJO. That's your story and you must stick to it. There are methods which involve the WJO bidder, but not with a 4♥ bid. Anything else is a terrible breach of partnership discipline.

1. No. 3♥ @ red, maybe 4♥ @ white/red
2. Yes. (see the above text)
3. No. (see the above text)
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Not sure if I would bid 2♥ or 3♥.

In any case, I have to respect p's decision to double 5♦, as Csaba said.

I don't agree with 2♥. I think its closer to 4 than 3, but I bid 3.

Pulling doubles like these aren't conducive to partnership harmony.

I also lead a spade.

I don't like 2♥, prefer in order 3♥ and 1♥. This is too much offense for 2.

It is not wise to pass over the redouble IMO. We have more hearts than partner expects and no trick in sight. If they are psyching the redouble they are too good, I'll remember next time. I mean don't we expect a heart void on our right? I don't run from every redouble, but they seem to have found a time I have extra offense and no defense. And it's not only fear, 5♥ will often make even if they were down (and I bet they double it then.) If I trade in 400 or even 1000 (gulp) I might escape with 850 to show for it :P Passing as some sign of partnership discipline or to maintain harmony is just closing your eyes to the world around you and not doing what you should know is right. No thank you.

I admit my answer may largely be a function of how much I dislike 2♥.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

1. no, any other bid below 4 Spade is better.
2. depends on your methods. But no. I have zero defence and a 4720 hand, which I did not bid yet.
3. I had not been there, but normally I pass. But not today. Up to now I declined to show my hand in a sane way. I should try to do it now and bid 5 Heart.
Kind Regards

Roland

Apparently I missed the best point in the poll. 2♥ was very wimpy, but I strongly disagree we are closer to 4♥ than 2.

Suppose we held xxxx QJT8xx xx x.

Are we overcalling 2♥ or 3? Is it close?

So we shift one card and now we're consider 4? B)

shifting that one card eliminates a loser. so yes it is closer to 4 than 2. in addition the 4th spade gives you an additional potential winner. personally when i have a side 4-card suit suit i treat the 4th card in my side suit as an additional card in my long 6/7/8 card suit. Im going to decide on 3/4 by evaluating my opponents. If they havent doubled me in 3 months im bidding 4:) if they double at the drop of a hat i bid 3.
This game never ceases to intrigue me!!

I too prefer 4♥ to 2♥, and would bid it at favourable. Here I think 3♥ is normal.

Having bid 2♥, I'm afraid I'm going to pull the redouble.

3H, what I do now is largely dependant on the players at the table but I would usually be pulling.

3♥ and I sit tight. I think pulling is a serious mistake.

2♥ is reasonable, depends on partnership agreements.

I would pass the redouble, opponent didn't bid 6♦, I wonder why the double made the hand better for him.

2♥ is reasonable when red but I prefer 3♥ here red vs red. If you are going to preempt, then preempt !

I promise no defensive tricks when I make a WJO. I certainly have none here, but unfortunately I have once more ♥ than PD expects.

A good declarer maybe XXing because he is void in ♥ and was considering a slam try, but 4♥ cramped his methods.

This is tough, but PD tells me that he can beat 5♦ and really should be aware that my hand maybe useless and that we may take no ♥.

If I pull to 5♥, I wonder how many we get set Xed !

I trust PD and reluctantly don't pull as note that I am unsure whether PD was bidding 4♥ to make or pressure the opps. I suspect make, but he'd better have real good chances to set 5♦ on his own.

There are enough crazy redoubles on BBO, so opener could get hurt here.

Now in a match with expert opps, well..then I have a problem, but I would have bid 3♥ so PD knows I have 7 of them.

For some conclusion, partner's hand was Ax Axx x AQJxxxx.

So the passers are right on this occasion. RHO's XX was really just a bluff.

As per the bluff, the operation was a success, but the patient died. Lead was a spade. I played CA and CQ covered and ruffed. I then played a trump to the A (both followed no K), then played the CJ discarding while Righty trumped in with the K. The claim followed shortly thereafter.

For what it's worth, I agree entirely with the 3♥ bidders. 2♥ was wet.

Strongly disagree with 2H.

I also pull.

I like partner's bidding.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.
