This kind of bidding makes me wish that xyz becomes standard for everyone, Sadly not yet.

If 1♠ denies the 12-14 balanced: unbal 14-17.

If it doesn't: a balanced 13-14 or the above unbal 14-17.

With more opener would have to dig out some other (natual) bid that passes 2NT.

If 2♣ is not game forcing, it shows extra values and clubs well stopped (usually exactly 4153 or 4144).

If 2♣ is game forcing is shows a minimum unsuitable (soft) hand with no interest in slam even opposite a hand that was about to make a slam try.

Funny, I'd say the opposite of what Frances says. Would you say that a 14-count should bid a NF 2NT, or is it that 1♠ is Walsh in your style? Do you generally apply the principle of fast arrival to notrump bids? Or is it that a non-GF FSF should allow you to stop below 2NT? (I assumed that we play a 15-17 1NT in this poll, the option of a balanced 14-count only makes sence in that context).

I'd say if 2♣ is GF, 3NT is a very descriptive bid, but I'm not sure which one. I have not discussed this with p and it's quite possible that we interpret it differently. My guess would be 4252 with scattered values and just reverse strength.

If 2♣ is not GF, it could be a balanced 14-count or a semi-balanced with 14 or a little more, but maybe some unbalanced hands would bid so as well, depening on which follow-ups after 2♣ would be nonforcing.

1♠ can be 4432, 2♣ is not GF.
