Help
There was some discussion about movies, and the Simpsons movie was mentioned. Got to thinking.
Anyone else here agree with me that the Simpsons, albeit entertaining, comes no where near the brilliance and humor of the Life in Hell series?
I loved reading Life in Hell years before the Simpsons. I was there for the emergence of the Simpsons, including way back when Bart Simpson popped up at a cartoon festival. I've never quite found the new stuff as food as to old stuff.
Anyone else agree with me? I'm not saying that the Simpsons is not funny. I'm just saying that I have a hard time getting worked up about what I consider to be the lesser Groening work.

"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

One of my prized posessions is an autographed "Life in Hell" book by Groening. It was published just before the Simpsons came out.
The author hand drew Binky on the inside cover.
Oo - just realized what I have is the original "Love is Hell" that came out in '84. Think I'll hold on to that one

Yeah -- that's the damned problem. All these youngsters know is the Simpsons, and maybe Futurama. Y'all missed Life in Hell, his true genious.

The LA Weekly would carry the In Hell comic strip. There was also some alternative newspaper in Montana that carried it back in the 80's.

Well....
I thought that the first year or two of the Simpsons was as good as In Hell. In Hell was open-ended, in that you weren't forced to have dad working in a nuclear plant, housemom, and three kids. When you're that constrained, tough to keep it funny for long.
