I like pai-gow myself.

In general, I love any version of "High Lo" stud...
My favorite game is called "61 with a gap"

1. Three cards are dealt to each player.

2. The player inspects the cards, trashes one, leaves one face down, and puts one face up.

3. At this point in time, you play standard "Hi-Lo" six card stud (one down, four up, one down)

If you want to add some fun to your weekly game, try Maverick some time.

I miss SKAT in this poll, the bidding is so simple that even 10+x glases of beer /a head/ don't depreciate the quality of the auction in this card game :D

OK, ok its not a sort of poker.. B)

I would have to say Big 2's ("Choh Dai Di") when played for money.

The way we played you kept playing until someone was out of cards. Then the game stopped. You then paid everyone that had less cards than you the difference between your number of cards and theirs. However, if you held 9-11 cards, you had to pay double and if you had 12-13 cards triple.

I used to play a weekly poker night and whenever we got down to four players, we would always switch to Big 2's.

In high school we used to play a variant of that game, Pusoy Dos. I wouldn't really call it chinese poker.

It was quite popular in my group of friends.

It's also known as "Blind Man's Bluff". Every one gets dealt one card which is then held at your forehead, so you can't see your card, but can see everyone else's card.

The fun ensues.

this variant requires a substantial level of alcohol consumption.

You have to be careful about TOO much, though, because then people can't hold their cards up, and get confused about when the betting ends, and look at their cards too early. It's very hard judging when the time is right. :)

that's why you have to purchase the special forehead card holders. others will sell you thumb tacks or staplers ... I recommend double sided sticky tape or silly putty.

If you are talking real poker the game I'm most familiar with is NL hold'em, like most players in the post-rounders post-Moneymaker world.

I think my favorite standard poker game is stud/8.

My favorite dealer's choice style game is 5 card draw, hi-lo, card speak (but still scoopable with straights and flushes and things involving Aces) and are revealed one at a time with betting after each reveal.

How about "Crossfire"? Had its moments during my pool hall youth days....

X X

(Sorry, couldnt get it to show the 5 cards in an X pattern but you get the idea?)

You have 5 cards face down on the table and 2 hole cards. Each exterior card is turned over at each betting round. The last card turned is the center card. It makes for some interesting betting strategies as your "hand" is your hole cards plus one of the two 3-card diagonals.

If I remember correctly, baseball is a form of 7-card stud, where 3's and 9's are wild (and cost you different amounts of money if they are face up). If you draw a 4 face up, then you can pay for another hole card.

I don't know black chicago, but I remember black mariah, where the highest spade card in the hole split the pot.
