Scoring: IMP

NS play 4cM weak NT.

1-2*-3-3
4-p-p-4
all pass

*5spades, 4+minor
what happened here?

+150 didn't fare very well vs +680.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

i blame the dog

to be honest, the only thing missing really is a final double. maybe north can venture a 4d call instead of 4h to make things clearer for p.

bringing back a 500 compared to a 680 is not that bad. (especially since on this layout it really should only be 650, and if you rearrange things slightly even 5 won't make).

others will probably disagree, but bidding to 5h on the NS hands is, imo, a long term losing action.

The final pass is weak, opener can be expected to have 2+ tricks and South might get 3 or more, can't pass.

otoh, I would have been very tempted to open 4

It is hard to find a good bid for south after 4 spade is passed around to him:

This hand screams: Double fit: They have spades and diamonds. In this case, my defensive values are lower then it seems and we may even have a double swing.
So I think I have to bid again just as an insurance against a double swing. As my pd has 7+ hearts, I would bid 5 Heart and nail 5 Spade.
Kind Regards

Roland

5? What double fit? Did pard support our clubs along the way?

Just hammer 4. Pard can still pull (he won't).

The rest of the auction looks fine to me.

Yes, south missed his obvious double.

;) The alpha and omega of this deal. Looking at just the two north-south hands, and trusting the opponents bidding, I don't particularly want to be in 5, much less 6.

How come south passed out 4 - surely that's impossible on this auction?
Kind regards,

It looks like a forcing pass to me, but even if it was agreed as NF (if 3 was a NFB) double is obvious.

So 100% to South.
