EDIT: Got the hand wrong, partner had the ♦J. This was my hand.

Scoring: MP

1♣-P-2♣*-3♥
?

*Inverted

Would 3NT here directly show a minimum hand as a sort of fast arrival or do you think it should show extras?

Do I play weak NT?

Anyways 3N here definitely shows extras since 2C wasn't even game forcing and thus we aren't even in a force.

12 cards Kevin.

Assuming I have a 13th non-heart, I would also ask why we didn't open this 1N.

The vulnerability matters too.

Fast arrival only applies in GF sequences. Unless 2♣ was GF (I play that, bit it's non-standard) you would pass with a minimum and partner might also pass this out with a minimum.

The actual hand is borderline vs an inv+ 2♣. Holding the ♥T I'd bid a 'confident' 3NT. Holding the 9 it's close. Being a light opener I'd have enough extra to bid 3NT here (partner would need more to invite). Playing a more conservative opening style I'd pass.

Edit: Passing is of course 'insane'. I'll double on those occasions where I don't bid 3NT.
Kind regards,
Harald

Doesn't anyone consider doubling 3H for penalties? Game our way is far from certain, and we have an almost purely defensive hand with four of their trumps (including a possibly useful 9-spot). Partner doesn't have to sit for the double if he is very short in hearts; maybe he will pull it to 3NT if that is the right contract.

Oh wait: you aren't allowed to double for penalties in the twenty-first century. . . .

I don't play forcing passes here> Anyway, I would rather double than bid 3NT.

I read that partners feel good when I double for penalty, let's see if it is true.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

If this inverted raise is like 5+ cards, I'll bid 3NT. If it can be less than 5 cards, I dbl.

3NT is certainly not fast arrival.

Assuming Pass is nonforcing, which is
most likely standard, 3NT simply says,
you want to play 3NT and you have no
interest in going after their blood.

If you play Pass as forcing, than 3NT
would be the weakest call you can make.

Although a hand which would bid 3NT would
be rare, since you want to play 3NT but
not 3Hx.
