you hold unfav imp's
KJT9xxx
Kx
x
Axx
Pd opens 1♦ (11-15, almost always 4+♦) in 1st seat and it goes:
1♦-1♠-p (do you agree?)-2♥
3♦-3♥-?
what's going on? what are we gonna do?
KJT9xxx
Kx
x
Axx
Pd opens 1♦ (11-15, almost always 4+♦) in 1st seat and it goes:
1♦-1♠-p (do you agree?)-2♥
3♦-3♥-?
what's going on? what are we gonna do?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Is this an actual auction?
Lord, help me choose the words I use and make them short and sweet.
We never know from day to day which ones we'll have to eat.

choices are : double (I had a penalty of 1S, now do something sensible please) but this could be disastrous as 3H could be a make as H appear to be 6322 round the table (or 5422 as 5332 should be beaten on trump leads...)
3NT (but where are the tricks coming from?)
Pass: for wimps.
I'll run with double and see what happens....opener will pass with 3H and pull with <2 in which case he will hold long D ( &C?) so perhaps we will have a chance.
Anyway the "pass the buck" bid is not only the most flexible but also the only way to get some insight/feedback as the other bids have no room for manoeuvre

I agree with impact on most he said.
I will pass because: even if partner finds 3NT after double, we probably only make 2♥+6♦+1♣, and 5♦ seems very unlikelly. And 3♥ X won't go for a number (unless they make)

Suppose you double (or do something else to disclose you trap pass): would you be in an FP situation if they compete to 4♥?
The world would be such a happy place, if only everyone played Acol :) --- TramTicket

Hi,
#1 yes, it was worth a try, but it did
not work out
#2 3NT, maybe it makes
With kind regards

As for what's going on, I see no reason not to take this auction at face value. If RHO has psyched 1s he would almost surely just pass 3d, and not stick his neck out with 3h again. If he did, well done to him.
I would bid 3n because it might be making and you just have to be there if it is. If there really are no spade spots beyond the 9, we have 3 spades and a heart to lose in spades at least, so 4s is out. It seems very likely partner has 1273 shape or something very similar. What can partner bid with x xx AKQxxxx Kxx except 3d? Sure, he might have x xx KQJTxxx KQx, but then maybe they X 3n and we can run to 4d. I'm not doubling 3h because, honestly, it might make, and d1 also seems normal.

Actually, spades were KJT9763.
