And if partner likes his hand (ie bids 4♣) I will in fact fall in love with this ugly duckling and bid 4♦.

I just can't bring myself to do it.
I have 9 points, opener shouldn't have much for points, somebody must have spades somewhere, I can't believe it'll be passed out all that often.
I can think of worse places for this hand to play than 4♠, if partner has 6 of them, and I'm scared that things may get too high too fast.
On the other hand, I DO have first round controls in 3 suits, so I'm certainly not going to claim that 3♥ is a bad bid.

Well, sometimes it passes to partner who has a balanced 12 with 3+ clubs and passes it out. He could even have Kxx KQxx Kx xxxx and you're cold for slam and you'll be playing 3c undoubled making.
And even if you do get another chance, it might be after a 5c bid on your left - doesn't seem so unlikely given that you're void. Even after a 4c bid and two passes to you, now you're going to risk coming in at the 4-level when you could have just come in at the 3-level? Winning bridge is getting in your bids when you can.

But this hand is 5-loser with 1st round control in 3 suits. If partner goes slamming, we are in good shape, and if we pass and partner re-opens with 3S, then what?
No red-blooded player would pass this hand.

Now the Canucks are at it again. First they stole Hans Ĝ from us (Danes), and now they are trying to do the same with one of the most famous fairytales by Hans Christian Andersen.

Shame on you, Mike! I think I will send a copy of this to the European Court of Human Rights. Needless to say, half of our fleet is already on the way to Halifax. I would take evasive action if I were you.

I have water flowing to my veins.
Not always, but quite often.

Hi,
sitting on the table, I may go into a tank,
and if I feel I go into a tank, than I bid, 3H.
If I pass, than it will be quickly, and I will
know that I am gambling.
With kind regards
Marlowe
PS: You list the risks of passing, and I agree, I even
agree, that one should try to bid one owns hand as
direct as possible, but of course their is also a danger
in bidding.
Pass maybe antipercentage (most likely looking at the
majority vote), but it maybe successsful.
