What a mess I made of this hand..

I think now I should bid 1♠ but I passed originaly wanting to see what the opps would do.

I also think 1♠ stands out, in particular with the good suit.

Passing with such a complicated hand means you are never going to catch up.

Don't do this, ever. Bid if your hand is worth a bid.

I would usually close my eyes, give a prayer to the Dieties, and an image would form in my mind. It would show one of the opponents bidding clubs. :)

Not only would I bid 1 spade, but had my partner been a passed hand I'd be tempted to bid 2 spades, because it would just unbelievably hork up their bidding. Not that I would ever do that, of course.

I'm sure I read somewhere that length in the opponent's suit is the sign of a misfit hand, and that you should refrain from bidding? Maybe this isn't the right context, I don't know. Looks like it though.

By the way, with east dealer, how did he get to bid again afterter four passes? :P

Sitting over opener with lenght is ok imo. Partner rates to have some fit and 'shortness' in openers suit. Same for LHO, but you will often be able to take ruffs in dummy. If you're under opener with lenght it's worse, since RHO often will be able to overruff dummy.

There's no passes in the OP. It seems Jillybean prefers to have the players in the logical order in the bidding diagram (W N E S), which I strongly prefer myself. I don't like the BW order (S W N E) - it's confusing. When you put it like this it's quite normal (nothing is standard here) to put in hyphens in the first line for the player(s) "in front of" opener.

Agree that passing with this hand is a very poor idea.

Not only is bidding 1♠ good for trying to win the contract it could help out in defense so much as well.
