Hi all. It's matchpoints and you have, at love all, this hand

Pard you
1 ... ??

1 is sayc-like. You can't bid 3 because that's strong. A direct 4 or 5 is undiscussed. What do you do?

Agree. Seems an easy pass. I may bid clubs later, but why do anything other than pass now?

That's too bad, I must pass.

Some tactical options, like 1NT or even a major, could work but certainly pass is the system bid and can't be criticized.
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

Even thinking is an overbid: pass unless you don't like playing a partnership game.

This hand generated some discussion at the local club game the other day. At table where people bid, opener, who had a red 4-6 and extras, pressed on to 3NT, going 3 to 6 down. 1 would definitely make.

I actually don't think 1NT is that bad, provided you have the means to sign-off in clubs subsequently. Still, without agreements, I'd definitely pass and hope for the best.

Thx all

For the 1 NT bidders:
On the given hand, the bidding had begun with
1 1 NT
2

I wihs everybody a good way to sign off in clubs now. I would try 2 NT, Lebensohl, but unluckily, pd will go on with 3 Diamond, because he has extra strength. You may try again to show a sign off in clubs. Impossible for me.

So I am happy with my first pass.
Kind Regards

Roland

I'd pass 3 then. We probably go down but as long as we aren' t vulnerable and don't get doubled, it's ok. Opps can make 2.

I'm more concerned about a 2N rebid by p. We won't be able to stop in 3 and maybe not in 4 either.

Maybe the worst that could happen after my 1N is that opps bid 4M and partner doubles.

codo/helene: after a 2NT or reverse+3, it might be possible to stop in FOUR clubs. This either makes or goes 1 down, depening on defense.

1 1 NT
2 2 NT
3 4 to play? That is a position

1 1 NT
2 NT 3 to play is easier to understand, but with a 2461 hand no sane pd will bid 2 NT anyway.

Congratulations for having a system where you can stop in 3 or 4 Club after this bidding. I believe that there are more useful meanings then to play it nonforcing, but I tend to pass hands with 3 HCPs when I have no sufficent bid to describe them, so maybe I am just oldfashioned. :(

So what is wrong with
1 (pass) pass (1 )
2 (2 ) 3

to show the hand?

Of course any form of bluff or semibluff can work from time to time, but not this time.
Kind Regards

Roland

Hi,

I doubt that I can stop in 4C, 4C is only in very few cases
a possible contacrt.

If opener makes a 3D rebid, I can pass.
He may thank me, that I have great trust in
his declarer play, since without any reasons I
raised the bar by 2 tricks.
