Hi, I'm currently using the WBF convention card editor version 2.18 to make a new convention card in preparation for an up coming event...

The problem which I encountered comes when I tried to create a PDF version of the supplementry notes by using the "print to file" option.
Turns out that the output file did not have any of the "♠♥♦♣" symbols on them, and instead they were replaced with dots.

Anybody has any idea how to make the symbols appear on the generated PDF files?

I heard that the problem concerns OS of the computer used, and that there'll not be any problems if I'm using winME/98 (I'm using win XP now) but unfortunately I can't find any available computer with that setting.

P.S : I've seen alot of the "experts" convention cards (example meckwell) having a heading of "WBF convention card 2.19"... but I can't seem to find any version of the editor higher than 2.18. Anyone knows how that version of card is made? Wonder if that version can solve my current problem...

I had the same problem with v2.18 (also on Windows XP). It certainly looks like a font issue but, despite chatting with Anna Gudge, I was unable to resolve it.

So I am using the Word version.

I did the cards for all of the USBF pairs in the Schools series last summer. Anna told me that she had a special script written so she could convert the cards to PDF while preserving the suit symbols. She did not share, however, who wrote the script or what exactly it does. It seems she wanted to keep this in-house. On the other hand, if you are preparing this card for a zonal or global competition, she would be quite happy to run it through the script and send your card back in PDF format.

As a confirmed Mac person, I've been resistant to using the WBF convention card editor forever. When I discovered that it doesn't produce a convention card that can be edited (to edit, you have to go back and re-enter things), I congratulated myself on not using it .
I first created the Word template way back when (before there was a CCE in fact) and have been using, and hopefully improving it since then. I find it much easier to use that than to use any editor, but I have to confess that since I also developed my own template for the ACBL card, I haven't experimented with the Lee Edwards CCE, so I don't really know whether it's easy or hard to use.
Suit symbols are always a problem, and Anna does a great job of managing to get them converted to PDF.

The Lee Edwards editor for ACBL cards is okay - unless you want to change something that's preprinted. That's a real pain.

I'm a Mac person, too. I wish some Mac person less lazy than me would come up with a decent CC editor for our platform.

The WBF and ACBL convention cards are really pretty easy to complete using a Word template. I'm not sure what the benefit of a CCE would be. Using a template lets me allocate space based on where I need it instead of where the person who designed the printed convention card thought it was needed. And for the ACBL card, I also use much larger print than any CCE, based on my partner's strong preference.

I managed to contact Anna for help.
She helped me to convert the card to PDF. . . with all the suit symbols intact!
Wonder how she does that?

I'd better switch to the Word version next time. . .
