Playing a semi-discussed 2/1 system partner opens 1 and you're surprised to pick up

AKxxx xxx - KQxxx.

Not sure what 2NT's continuations are you bid 2. Yes 4 is also a good idea but you felt at the moment that the side suit also helps. It goes:

1-p-2-4
p-p-?
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

Your partners pass was forcing, this is clear, as your 2C bid forced to game. You have the wrong number of hearts for anything dramatic. I would bid 4S. This is not a pressure bid you could double if it was ever your intention not to support spades.

The down-side to bidding only 4S is that partner, who is missing both top spades might not be too excitable. But what can his hand be? At most he has QJ of spades, and he probably not planned on inviting to 6C with a pass and then a pull of your double to 5C. You could jump to 5S, which would be much more encouraging, but it ask partner to bid a slam with a heart control, so you could be in a bad spot should partner have QJxxx x AKQJ Jxx for instance. So I will bid just 4S and see what happens next.. which maybe three passes.

I'm excited about this hand, I think 5 is very reasonable just taking a chance on the club ace for slam. My heart holding is excellent for this auction, nothing wasted and partner could easily have a singleton.

This will also get us to our grand sometimes when partner would have passed 4. Say Qxxxx Ax Qxxx Ax, he will bid 6 over 5 showing the ace of clubs and first round heart control, and there we are (if you think partner should double 4 with that it's moot, since that means a pass is only a better hand for offense.)
Please let me know about any questions or interest or bug reports about GIB.

I'm more concerned about missing 7, then bidding a bad 6.

5 is clear. On a good day, pard will tell me he has the A, along with the A / void.

4. Too risky to bid 5 if pard has like xx or xxx in hearts.

pass was indeed forcing, but 4 may be an underbid (can't you have a doubleton honour and nothing else to bid?). So I think you need something more, probably 5 or so...
