At the moment, there is not much point in checking opponents CC, because they never have one posted anyway. And it's usually not worth posting them, because opponents never bother to look for one (as they don't expect to find one).
How to break this circle? Short of mandating CC's for some tourneys (which might just deter people), I think a simple feature would get them used much more often: Give a small notice when opponents have a CC posted. For example by highlighting the "convention cards"-button at the bottom. I know I would be much more inclined to post one if I don't first have to tell opponents that I have posted one at all.

Actually, rather than highlighting the CC button, I'd like to see an indication in the box displaying the auction. After all, that's where I'm looking to see the bidding progress and watching for alerts.

It helps if you and your opponents will say "convention card posted" when one is posted (which they should also be posted).

I find trying to fill in a CC fairly timeconsuming --- would there be any way to be able to do it BEFORE logging on to BBO? --- that way at least I could fill them in for people I play with from time to time ( like yahoo and Swan friends)

I am not sure from your post whether you know this, so if you know it already, just pretend I posted it for the other readers
Of course, you only have to fill it out once for each partner. Then click Save, and pick a file name to recognize the partner(s) for which this CC is for. Next time, you can reuse it with "Open", selecting the file, and then pressing "Use".

Another hint.
1) Open one of the standard BBO convention cards and modify it to suit your needs, then save that, or
2) Save convention card posted by others that is close to what you play and modify that, and
3) After saving a basic convention card you like, make changes in it to suit each of your other partners and then modify that.
If you are really adventurous you could try to "fill" out your convention card offline. They are stored as a flat text flie in the directory under the bridgebase online program named "convention cards". The file format is fairly staight foward, but be careful, only so much space is available for each text area. I don't recommend this approach.

Thanks for the tips Ben -- but my point is I have to be logged on to BBO in order to make changes to a CC --- and was hoping there was a way to do the CCs at a time when I am not trying to play bridge
Mind you I am probably doing SOMETHING wrong

You need to be logged in to BBO to make a CC (well, most of the time). It is, however, possible to be logged in to BBO and not be playing bridge - difficult, yes, but possible!
My favourite tack: host an invisible room, sit down, work on the card (if you're working on it with partner present, get her in and sat first), "use"ing and "save"ing frequently (Use means that partner can see it).
Enjoy!
Michael.

this is sorta elementary, but if you have several partners and there are only a few things you do differently with each (meaning you want to keep most things), go to your bbo folder on your harddrive and 'save as' (not save) a card.. rename it for whomever you play with, then you can customize it for that person.. don't hafta type everything, every time
