Scoring: IMP

Ok, two passes to RHO who opens 1D, playing Basic Acol...LHO bids 2NT and RHO 4NT...LHO then bids 6NT.

Partner leads the 6 of spades which goes jack, ace and 2....what do you return?

spade. LHOs spade 2 is very telling. Assuming he doesn't have a 4 card major then he cannot have the KQ2 of spades (else the S6 from 986xx is random). It looks like partner has H986x of spades.

yes, and if LHO does not have 4 spades then the 6 cannot be second.

You got fixed by the bidding. File it away.

NO, he lied if he said they were playing Acol. They were not. Only an idiot would suppress both majors.

no interference, 1C 1N 2H p p p, making exactly 2.

Dummy has KQxx Kxxx xx xxx
Declarer has xx QJxx Qxx AKJxx

Both players have been playing bridge for years. When questioned, Dummy says, "I was showing my points." Declarer says, "Reverse? Did I reverse? We don't play reverses."

Sometimes you guys and gals gotta stop playing in World Championships and play some REAL bridge.

If we construct the missing hand, your partner had:

86xx
AJx
xxx
xxx

I can understand why he didn't lead the HA. I think there's a case to be made for leading it, but also one for not leading it. Just chalk it up to opps taking a strange action that worked out well for them.

I agree with Justin's reasoning but seeing dummy I was ready to assume that the bidding by declarer doesn't make sense either.
