I think it would be easier to search through hands, if the filenames weren't of the format:

MM-DD-YY, but YY-MM-DD

With the current setup, it could be quite teadious to have hands from more than one year in your folder.

I solve the problem by displaying the folder in rows rather than icons, and then clicking on the Date column to sort that way.

Another problem with the current naming scheme is that it's US-centric. Most Europeans write dates DD-MM-YY.

Yes, but the Japanese way, proposed in the first post, has the advantage of being already ordered.

Even better would be starting the filename with YYYY-MM-DD. It's easier to read for all imo (may 7th 2007: 05-07-07, 07-05-07 or 2007-05-07).

How about the names of the scoreboardfiles, now using the format:
Day-of-week (first 3 chars)
time (24 hours format GMT)
"GMT"
individual or pairs
scoring (MP/IMP/Totalpoints)
"Host"
hostname
"Title"
tournamentname
#?~#file~#tournament

Tue_11-15_GMT_Individual_IMP_Host-jw_nl_Title-#1273_Ind._Focus-4x2_IMP_6MpB_Clock_SWF___~1~1162293304~1273

Starting with YYYY-MM-DD instead of Day-Of-Week would be nice.

This is the format all programmers switched into in order to overcome the 1999/2000 problem.
