Hi all,

I think it would be nice to meet one time the members who are active in this forums all together at the bridge table, to say "hello" and play 10-12 boards
in a friendly atmosphere, at the last weekend of 2006 for example.

It's only an idea, but if you appreciate it, please post here your thoughts
and proposals about organizing and participating.

Great idea - how about a pairs tournament as well, it would be nice to pair up the experts with the mere mortals.

I could help set it up, to restrict the tournament to forum only members we just need a list of those members wanting to play

Here is a list of forum usernames with at least 38 post. This could be used as a starting list of members. A few words of caution. Not all these names are the same as BBO knicknames. Second, names that are too long (like enormouschicken) seems to cause problems if you include it in an include list for tournaments. So someone (not me) will need to at the very least prune out the names that are not "right" from this list, and add the names of new BBO Forum users with fewer than the number of post I picked at random.

Oh, and I would play if it was possible in this event.

I have done a first cut of invalid names here. To add to Bens caution with the include lists don’t combine them with other include lists ie friends of host or other exclude lists, trailing spaces can mess it up also.

Note if your BBO Id doesnt exactly match your forum name you wont be able to register!

This is supposed to be a mixer. In theory, we're doing this to play boardss agains other forum regulars. Any chance that we could try to have a long tournament? 24 boards? Maybe 28? This will give the chance to play against more folks.

Plenty of time to book three and a half hours on my schedule...

I'd suggest that we don't have any requirement regarding a minimum number of of posts. If you read the forums and find out about the event you should be able to play.

I wasn't setting the limit at 38 post. The problem here is three-fold. First, to make it a forum only event, you have to create a list of people who are allowed to play. The second is there is a physical limit to the list size. The final one is not everyone who registered here used a real bbo nickname, and some, used names that will not work within the bbo.

So first, we could not create an include list with 5000 names. Second, we wouldn't want to edit down the list of names to remove the illegal ones (too long) from such a long list. As I said when I posted the list, anyone not on it, just yell and we can add their name.

I suggest indy 1 per board, in 24 boards you can meet at the table a lot of persons.

Here is the problem in a nutshell

We have forum members from basically every time zone. It will be difficult to find a time that allows everyone to play (some of us need sleep). But it can be done to suit the largest number of players. However, if you stretch the tournament time to run, say 3 hours, you will reduce the number of people who can stay awake to end the event. So while I agree 24 boards (or rounds) would be nice, do we really think that is workable? If the event started at 1AM in your time zone, would you be more willing to play if it ended at 2:30 or 4 AM?

This is a real concern.

The timing is going to decided also on when we have someone available to run it and we are likely to need a few to cover the time differences.
I assume everyone will be on their best behaviour, make alerts and not take advantage of any UI - so a playing TD would be acceptable?

I have created a tournament to check & see if the include list is working tournament#849 BBO Fourm it is set to 6days, 23hours out so scroll to the bottom of the "tournaments starting later" list and you will find it, check that you can register.

Here's a silly suggestion:

No matter how many boards the tournament lasts, we won't be able to have everyone meet during the tournament.

Why not run two separate tournaments, 12 hours apart.

This increases the likelyhood that people can find one at a convenient time.
