Scoring: IMP

If you pass as dealer then your RHO will open 1 in 4th.

I can live with a weak 2 but it really has two flaws - the spade fragment and the lousy heart suit.

Now that I pass, I will continue to exercise caution and settle for a 1 overcall.

As Phil said, the 2H opening has those two "flaws." On the other hand, what it has going for it is:
a. You show a moderately good hand with 6 hearts
b. You put more pressure on the opps

Having passed you really can't pre-empt with 2H later, since its much less safe than initially, so you are forced to bid only 1H. Also, partner might expect a different hand type (say 6H and 4S) if you bid 2H as a passed hand, so you probably will not be able to show 6 hearts in a lot of cases. On the other hand, you are really unlikely to get penalized in 1H.....

Anyway, I have no strong opinion about pass vs 2H. In fact I am not even sure which is the higher variance action, although I suspect 2H is slightly higher variance.

What I do depands on the partnership style.

With an understanding/aggressive pd, I open 2H.

Otherwise, I pass and bid 1H the second time.

I open 2H with any partner. This is not close. If it was Kxx Jxxxxx x Axx it would be a problem with some partners.

If somehow I passed the first time, I bid 2H the second time. SHEESH, how easy are you making it for the opps to find their spade fit? Many people play 1D (1H) 1S = 5 and 1D (1H) X = 4. So bidding 1H actually helps them find out if they have an 8-card spade fit.
It costs nothing to be nice -- my better half
