Scoring: MP

Bidding:
Partner, north, opens
4H - (p) - p - (4S);
p - (4nt) - ?

Questions:
1. Agree with passing partner's 4H opening?
2. What should 4nt mean?
3. Your call?

1. Yes. There is a lot to be said for an immediate bid of some kind, either a straightforward 5 or a psychic 4N, but you have just enough stuff that the vulnerable opps might not be able to balance.

2. 4N should be keycard: there is no reason why it should be anything else... why would east try to improve the contract? Even if you had long s, I'd still treat it as keycard, and your length strongly suggests that E has a fit, in which case surely he intended it as keycard?

3. I'd bid 5 to get the best lead for our side..... I don't mind going down undoubled in 5 and I will run to 5 if doubled. I have no intention of saving: I am positioning the defence. The opps probably have a source of tricks in , with the Ace hopefully on my right, and I hope to score 2 minor tricks and one major. In that case, I probably need a lead.. I definitely can't have a lead.

Agree with mikeh. I kinda think they're not going to make 5.

1) Yes, you are strong enough to believe that
4H may have bought the auction
2) Blackwood
3) Pass, there is a fair chance that whatever 5 level
contract they play it is going down

agree with mikeh, except I would probably pass 4H because if opener has AK 8th, then we make 4H and opps probably can't bid.

Make a Jansma double to see if they play some kind of ropi/ripo or penalty redouble :)
