yes, I agree with the second double: I lack the tricks to try 3N, and the suit is inadequate for 4 and I just have to hope that either he doesn't bid 4!D or that, if he does, we can make it

As it is, he's bid a suit I don't mind... I'm happy enough right here....he will not usually have a hand on which 5 is good, and if he has, for example, x xxx xxx Kxxxxx, a hand on which 4 works well, on a 3-2 trump break, too bad...I'm not in the mood to chase non-vulnerable moon-beams

However, if red, then there is some logic to 4 now, since the sequence denies a long, strong suit and affords partner some rights.... or am I dreaming?

Hi,

No, I would not even have
doubled the first time, simply
bid 3NT.

As it went, throw a dice, either
bid 5C or Pass.

With kind regards
Marlowe

I share Mikes dream of an understanding pd and try 4 Heart. If pd gets this wrong (Slam interest cuebid in Hearts) We will be in 5 Club. So be it.
Kind Regards

Roland

I might have bid it differently the rounds before, but now that I'm on 4, I'll try 4.

I take it pard won't play me for 7 hearts and 3-4 losers because that hand overcalls 4 directly and doubles later.

Wasn't this from an early round of the USBF qualifying?

I think Meckstroth and his counterpart bid 4, which worked out well. I thought 5 was possible (pard obviously has a little shape), but 4 is certainly flexible.
