Problem with this approach is, you need a SOCKS server IN YOUR OFFICE, which effectively punches the firewall. So you need help from the network admins to set up this (I guess it is improbable to get)

If your company is anything like mine, they restrict their SOCKS connections to ssh ports because otherwise having a wide-open SOCKS server sorta defeats the purpose of having a firewall to start with. Having said that, I am currently at work, behind a firewall and I have a ssh tunnel via SOCKS to a machine at my home where I establish a connection to BBO. There are actually two ways I can establish a tunnel. One is via SOCKS and if you don't have a SOCKS server then you're out of luck. The other way does not require a socks server but instead uses something that I guarantee you that you have access to. In either case, you'll need administrative access to a machine outside the firewall to relay your packets through. If you don't have access to such a machine, I can set you up an account on my machine but bandwidth doesn't come for free so I'd have to charge a small monthly fee. You are the 4th or 5th person who has expressed interest in learning how to do this. All the others have given up when they've learned how complicated it is.
