Back when I had a mac, I used virtual PC. My mac was one of those older imacs, not powerful, and BBO was slooooooow on it. I don't think the only reason is because its a slower mac--emulators just don't run good, even with faster macs.

Someone I spoke to recently also said some functions are not possible when using virtual PC to run BBO.

I recommend you buy a cheap PC for $100 more than emulator softwares.

I use Virtual PC on an iBook G4, and haven't noticed any functions that don't work. Logging in is a little slow when it's downloading all the user and table info, but not too bad. The only things that seem to take forever are any functions that pop up browser windows, like the News window when you first login or the Find Me A Table window. I haven't tried the GIB double dummy analysis, I expect it would be pretty slow as well.

I use VPC7 on a Powerbook (G4, not the new Intel one) and don't have any problems. Chip uses my old (2 computers ago I think) Pismo Powerbook with VPC and finds it sufficiently acceptable for BBO that he hasn't bothered to install VPC on his current iBook G4. The old VPC runs Win95, and I know I was told that was probably faster than a newer version, until I got XP.

The only thing that I find slightly difficult is if someone posts a URL and I want to open it in Safari on the Mac, instead of in IE on VPC, it's almost impossible to copy it from BBO - whenever I try to select it to copy, I end up clicking instead and then IE opens and I have to copy the URL from it to paste into Safari. But that's certainly not a major difficulty.

I don't know of any alternative to VPC as an emulator, btw. I wish BBO would run on the Mac, of course :D. It & Bridgemaster are the onlly things I need VPC for.

What I do on my G4 iBook is use Remote Desktop to my Windows XP desktop. Not an ideal soultion since it requires an operational XP machine, but certainly something to look into.
