I once did a simulation on this type of hand and overcalling your 4-card major came out a big winner.

4C is a nothing bid - even when it is right you gain nothing.

Actually I have recently been playing 4C/D here as (non-)Leaping Michaels.
If I play that method then 4C is ok. (It should be 5-5).
