Scoring: MP


World Championships, mixed pairs. NS: Zia Mahmood - Jill Meyers. EW: unknown.

West passed, and it went 2NT pass 3NT, all pass.

Yes, 6♣ is cold, but it's virtually impossible to get there. 2 out of 83 NS pairs were in the club slam. Anyway, you're in the normal looking 3NT at MP. Lead: ♠9 (none or two higher) to the queen and ace. How many tricks would you and I take? And how many did Zia end up with?

11 from the top, but both East and West must find 4 discards.

I think I would get 11 by ♥ to K and run the ♣s

Guess he got 13, but I don't see how. Perhaps 12 is more realistic (or not). Seeing both hands, not touching ♥ makes lots of sense. Also, ♦A at trick 2 looks interesting.

Since you can make 12 tricks against best defense, Zia must have tricked them for 13. But I have no clue how one could do that.
