Small bridgebase individual, the following board
Scoring: IMP

I know, I should not name, but I have to do.... The bidding:
West---North---East---South
1BT-----P--------3D-----6BT
DBL-----P--------P-------RDBL
pass....

Down 12, -6400, completely destroyed results (average) for this board, completely destroyed results of the tournament. Both opponents got 24 IMPs here and won the first two positions in tournament results.

This is nothing else than pure bridge EVIL. Should not be such monsters prohibited from playing in bridgebase tournaments FOREVER?

Please don't post names.

You can report skewing of boards to abuse@bridgebase.com with details.

Bans are unlikely to be "forever", but if justified, some sort of punishment will apply.

OK, I erased the name (one was overlooked with the editor) .....but I still think that the problem is not in naming....

The TD should have:

adjusted the board back to a sane result (protect the field)
subbed out the offender (might do it again)
reported the offender to abuse@ (we'll educate the offender)

Um. There is nothing in the laws about protecting the field.

Its called common sense, something blatantly lacking in those who bid like this.

If you want to apply a law, 12A should apply here.

This shouldnt ruin the tournamnet as the TD should adjust the score just like i did to one 7NT like that about a week ago.

For what it is worth, people who bid this way always eventually get caught and sanctioned with or without anyone reporting it. To find these hands, bridgebrowser is used and ridiculous scores from tournaments are examined quickly by finding and sorting out hands where such crazy results exist. These hands are then looked at, sometimes these swings are just funny things that went wrong or a bidding misunderstanding. But more often it is this kind of leap to 7nt or some other slam on no values. It takes only 15 minutes or so to examine a month of data this way, and everyone found bidding like this are turned into abuse.

Of course, finding these people a week to a month after the action does little protect the field in the event that it occurred in, that is up the director in real time. BTW, i personally frown on the defenders who accept the score and do not report the event to a bbo yellow and/or the director.

Could there be a button as "send to abuse" which would collect all information and send it to abuse (say with some small comment from sender)?

It would help a lot (rather easy thing for implementing and very easy to use, of course some misuse penalties could be given for some (often) wrong abusers - but you probably do it as well).

Um. There is nothing in the laws about protecting the field.

While there's nothing specifically about protecting the field, I think there's a law that essentially prohibits random bidding. I can't find it, but I'm pretty sure something in the Laws says that you're supposed to try to win, and throwing a board like this is obviously a violation of that.

Law 12.2. Normal Play of the Board Is Impossible
The Director may award an artificial adjusted score if no rectification can be made that will permit normal play of the board (see Law 88).

After a precipitous and intention throwing of a board like this, the director should be called and the play stops. The fact it went down a zillion is immaterial, the hand never should have been played. If called in time, the director could have replaced the player and ordered the bidding to back up and hand bid and played normally. After the director was not called, I would rule both sides at fault, throw the 6NT bidder out, assign average minus to both pairs, and move on. But I can be overopinionated on these issues.

Law 88 says the non-offending side for time-based penalty should be awarded 60% or the average of their game (whichever is greater). So the director might rule that the side that didn't call was a non-offending side and assign them average plus, and average minus to the offending side, along with removal of the player.

The director can thus, excerise law 12 and say a normal result is not possible due to violation. And can sanction the player via law 74 (quoted by jdonn above) and law 91 which is:

LAW 91
PENALIZE OR SUSPEND
A. Director's Power
In performing his duty to maintain order and discipline, the Director is specifically empowered to assess disciplinary penalties in points or to suspend a contestant for the current session or any part thereof (the Director's decision under this clause is final).

B. Right to Disqualify
The Director is specifically empowered to disqualify a contestant for cause, subject to approval by the Tournament Committee or sponsoring organization.

I am with Ben.

The one difference is that I would let the board be played out before I call a TD. It may be unlikely, but it is not impossible that the 6NT (or equivalent) bidder is actually serious. May be your partner has psyched and he does have an impossible hand to bid. It is even possible that everybody has their bid.

Once I see that the player actually has gone down n tricks redoubled then I will call the TD and report the whole thing to abuse. In that case, I expect the TD to give our side Ave+.
