Hi!
Discussing competitive bidding, we discovered that we don't have a defined system in these situations:
i) (3/) 3NT (p) ???
ii) (3/) 3NT (p) ???

1.) 4 = ?
2.) Do you play transfers?
3.) 4 = ?
4.) 4NT = ?
5.) cuebid = ?

It might be discussed already somewhere here, but I didn't find anything... :) :blink:
Thx for help!
Caren :)

After any 3-level pre-empt & a 3NT overcall:

4C = range/hand type enquiry (cue bid = super strong balanced, 4NT = min balanced, suit = natural source of tricks)
4D = sign-off somewhere (overcaller must bid step 1)
4H/4S/5C/5D = natural NF mild slam tries (as long as not a cue bid)

If the opening pre-empt was a major, a cuebid shows a 2-suiter (slam invitational if they opened 3S because you're a level higher, not necessarily strong if they opened 3H and you have spades)

This way allows you to show a mild slam try in any suit at the possible cost of wrong-siding the contract. We prefer this because the 3NT overcall has such a wide range, but obviously it's just a matter of personal preference. We also struggle with 2-suiters (another popular method is to use the cue of a minor suit opening to show a major 2-suiter).
