1D-(1NT)-DBL-(2S)
P-(P)-DBL
1NT shows 15-17 and good stop;
First DBL of parnter is penalty.
Are all further DBL's by you and partner penalty now?
...sorry, can't change the title anymore: does it make a difference if you opened 1m or 1M?

Play the same methods as you play after (1NT) x penalties (2S)
I play double as take-out from both sides.
After opening 1m I also play pass as forcing over any 2-level bid; after opening 1M I don't play pass as forcing over 2S.

Situations such as
1x (dbl) rdbl
1x (1NT) dbl
1NT (dbl) rdbl
are usually punitive against the overcalling line. You can, of course, play whatever you agree with pard, but the mainstream method is..
- Dbl: in direct seat = penalty, in balancing seat = optional usually showing at least Hxx in opps suit.
- Pass: forcing, has no penalty double.
Some reverse the meaning of pass/dbl..
- Dbl: take-out, both in direct or balancing seat.
- Pass: interested in penalizing opps. Pard should dbl unless he would take out a direct penalty dbl.

i prefer playing that all doubles after a penalty x are penalty also... don't know what theory says about it, but at least it's easy to be on same page

This has to be penalty. The double of 1N indicated its our hand and wants to defend.
If I have short spades and want pard to bid something
I have to try 2N.
