No wonder things are getting hot. :P

Things always get hot when humans are involved. Humans are very aggressive :P

Some people confuse suggestions of ignorance (lack of knowledge) with suggestions of stupidity. They are not the same at all. The most intelligent person in the world, when first playing bridge, will be no match for a low-level expert.

I once played against Bill Gates, of Microsoft fame. A VERY smart man... yet he made an error against us that no expert would make... Mr. Gates had limited knowledge, not limited intelligence. So when I suggest that Whereagles should consider that some of those whose opinions differ from his may have greater experience and knowledge, I am NOT disparaging his intelligence or abilities.

I did not say, and do not say, that he is any less intelligent than those with more knowledge: I do not know him well enough to suggest that, and, if I did, I would not so insult a poster on these forums.

When Fred posts, I read with interest. Partly because Fred is very smart, but mostly because Fred possesses a deep knowledge of the game: a deeper knowledge than I have. A knowledge gained by considerable effort and considerable experience coupled with a strong intellect.

I do not see Fred's better knowledge of the game or of, for example, computer programming, as an indicator, one way or the other, of our relative intelligences. I bet I know a heck of a lot more about the law of libel than Fred does, but I am not about to confuse that with comparative intelligence ;)

You know.. it's interesting to see that the meaning of words depends a lot on who says them. If I were to say what Fred says, nobody would care much for it :) Unfair? Maybe, but definitely very human.

Mr. Gates had limited knowledge, not limited intelligence.

Nothing bad about Mr. Gates Mike, but I doubt that he has unlimited intelligence. :)
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

I don't know, if those of us with limited intelligence (even when this limit is very high) could see the difference between unlimited intelligence and madness. :)

I might or might not open 2C. Anyway, I would bid 3NT now, the only choice.

That is one possible way out but I don't like it because I prefer that rebid to show a solid minor with 1 trick on the side, e.g. something like

Kxx
x
AKQxxxx
xx

If, after 1-1 you rebid 2/3, you run the risk of having pard pass on a 5-6 hcp hand (say AQ) and miss a game. Not to mention it's much easier for pard to evaluate the combined strength if the 3NT rebid is made on 8 playing tricks rather than 9 or 10.

I know this is a matter of style, but I prefer this way of bidding and I don't think you can easily convince me otherwise.

Thit hand would be a 3NT rebid for me as well.
