I am West

Can I have comments on my 2club bid as pard is on an overcall of 1 diamond

also I was not sure what to do here, (assuming cue to show support is ok)

what should the 2 club cue show and what could a 2 heart cue show if I had bid that instead of 2 clubs

Thanks

2C was a fine bid. 2H would also be a fine bid. I'm not sure how "standard" differentiates between the 2 cues.

The most popular methods that I know of are 2H=4+ limit raise, 2C=3 card limit. The other method is that 2H shows more heart values, 2C shows more club values (not really good when one cue goes above 2 of your suit and one doesn't, but otherwise sensible).

I would probably have bid 2H, but partner will understand 2C as well.

Your X was agressive but reasonable. I wouldn't do it, but if my heart 6 was the 9 I probably would.

I don't think that 2C and 2H can both distinguish in diamond length and stoppers. I would play that 2H shows better diamonds than 2C, so 2H seems better.

I find the 1D overcall unattractive btw, with 5 spades.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Yes, I meant them as seperate methods (hence, most popular methods). I reworded the sentence for clarity.

ah, ok, that makes more sense. What do you think about the 1D overcall Justin? I expect you to bid with that hand, and 1S is perhaps even worse.

I would bid 1S. If we are going to outbid their hearts, we will bid spades. This includes partials, saves, games to make. I'm not in "lead director" mode yet, even though partner is likely to be on lead. 1D, giving up on outbidding the opps and getting the right lead in is not as crazy as it looks though.

Many might overcall 1s on the theory even Vul it can be light and takes up space. I strongly disagree with 1D Vul overcall but see it often on BBO.
