Where and when can I see (experienced) Moscito-bidders in action? :)

Whenever Richard and I are playing, or when Toothbrush and I are playing. Perhaps some other people play it to, but I don't know for sure.

Hi Sonny,

I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but we (DrTodd / foobar) play a similar system (albeit w/ FP openings) on BBO from 12-1 PST every weekday. The purists might object, but there are a lot of similarities (opening ranges, transfer openings, symmetric relays, etc)...

You can occasionally see an australian pair playing Moscito on BBO. Parl Marsden might be playing it of course, but I think I recently saw bobby richmond playing it with someone (Lorenz?).

Dan Neill and I play TOSR on BBO (x-fer openings, strong club, symmetric relay) but there are a few significant style differences between the systems (Moscito is more agressive, especially with the 3 card raises).

What are the respective BBO names of these people (esp. interested in Marston's)?

Thanks,

If there was sufficient interest, I'd be appy to ask him whether he'd be interested in an exhibition match

That would be totally and completely awesome! Please make sure that Europeans can watch it, too (now I wanna see how you cope with three totally different time zones :-).

Maybe its time for swatting the MOSCITOs, the next generation...

Ideally, I'd like to get a strong team playing fairly standard methods (BBO Advanced or French Standard or some such) to go up against team MOSCITO (whatever that might be).

Frances, any chance that we could coax you and your husband into the arena?

The spirit is willing....

During the week I work away from the UK and I don't have BBO-compliant internet access (firewall).

Weekends are possible in theory, but pretty much every weekend from now until April is either bridge or skiing or when neither of those visiting friends/parents/in-laws who complain we're never in the country.

(That's also why we haven't been doing much vugraph recently).

Anyway, I shall consult.

I made a Vugraph of the first Swat the Moscito match on BBO - held in mid 2003. Players included Paul Marston, Sartaj Hans, Fred, Luis Argerich and Inquiry. Match has added commentary provided by some of the players after the match. Email me and I'll send you the file.

Hope this goes ahead - If you like I could supply a .dup file (of selected hands, maybe) from a Bermuda Bowl final or major event that has a Vugraph record. Might be interesting to compare results ;)

I VEHEMENTLY dislike "events" that use hands from past events. It's especially problematic when some of the participants are good enough players to have potentially

1. Seen the boards before
2. Recall the hands

An additional problem with this approach is that as the selection process cannot itself be random it lays itself open to the charge that the selected hands may, taken as a whole, be better (or worse) suited to Moscito than to other methods. That is of course likely to be the case anyway with a small population of hands, even if randomly selected, but at least if left to chance it does not leave anyone exposed to accusations of malpractice, however ill-justified.

Masterminding (pron. mPosted ImagesPosted ImagetPosted Imager-mPosted ImagendPosted Imageing) tr. v. - Any bid made by bridge player with which partner disagrees.

I agree with that. Although it is really tempting to have a supposedly unbiased third party select some interesting hands for the event (that would not have been played before in any well-known tournament), that would leave a bitter note on it.

In any case I'm voting for playing at least 26 boards in the event (if time permits), as to keep the bias towards one method low.

BTW it would be great to have Fred playing, is there any chance this might happen?

If the match takes place some time in April I can probably play. I have a lot of bridge already scheduled in the remainder of February and throughout March.

We could do a weekend date in April. We'd love to be on a 'natural' team if we're allowed to score up with Fred!

We got Paul Marston - Hugh Grosvenor as the anchor pair for team MOSCITO

Not sure who the other pair is. Worst case, you'll be stuck with me and Free or the Hog, or maybe Echognome...
