5♠X is 2 down, on a hearts lead.

5♣ can be made only on a hearts or clubs lead. Otherwise the 9x in clubs denies you the 2nd entry to dummy.

The 1♣ opener had: AKQxx KQTx Kxx x, and could have gone for a much worse results. Overall, I think that this validates the advantages of bidding 5♣ directly.

To bid preempt hands slowly does work.... but just against unexperient opponents. The better players will use the bidding space you gave them to reach there best spot...

I would bid 5 club very easily. My pard and I have the agreement, that after a strong club opening, any bid shos less then an opening, but this hand is different. The opps will have a fit in at least one major, but maybe not in both and they may decide wrong.
After 5 Spade, I double and hope, that part will understand it...

Only two options: Pass and 5♣. You have 4 losers so your hand is surely worth 5♣, the question is when to bid it. Getting ♦ in is utopic, as well as finding partner with enough for slam (but since this was a problem hand either of this must be it ).

I'll just go for 5♣. At the "at the table" auction I'd get in a Lightner X.

I'd go for an immediate 6♣. I might throw away a laydown game when partner has ♦K, but it's MP and I want to put the pressure up! I might even make it when partner has ♥K and LHO leads ♥A.

If I'd start with 5♣, and the bidding continues to 5♠, I'd just make a Lightner Dbl...

5♣. Sure passing first shows strength, but why bother? Will partner ever care that you are strong?

Passing first and then 5♣ will make it less likely that they will continue to the 5-level and go down. If you jam now and it gets passed to opener, he may have to be aggressive since from his point of view you could be robbing him.
