you hold:

Scoring: IMP

partner deals and opens 1S and you respond 2D (promising 5).

Partner bids 5NT and you reply 7D and it goes pass pass double.

Your call.

easy XX. RHO is asking for a spade lead, and I'm void. It's important to punish lightner Xs when you can.

Punishing the lightner X is actually not my most urgent reason for redoubling. I want to protect partner from running to 7NT. (I just hope that the opening lead with ruff and overruff doesn't turn out to be a trump promotion.)

If I was to ever redouble a contract at the 7 level, this is it.

Assuming pard is sane when he bids 5NT of course....

RDbl was the first and only thing that popped into my mind...

When I saw a hand very similar to this, it was

-
Axxx
AK98xx
QJx

But I agree with the redouble (on either hand).

you're probably right Frances. It was given to me by a mate who got it from his team mate from the Lederer. This guy was staying with an ex-pat bridge player in London so the hand has probably done the rounds and got mixed up in the translation.

Yes the hand was like Frances presented it. Redouble indeed. Looks like this one went around the world in 80 minutes :)
