RHO isn't playing 'chicken' here. He's got a real hand.

Now if I could only remember the 5-4-4 hand........

Pulling is a real possibility.....

We asked partner to bid their longest suit. Why are we playing 4sxx? I assume spades is partner's long suit..no problem.

its cards takeout oriented but you will note I mentioned

pard will always pass with a balanced hand.
pard will only bid if he has hopes of making.

You cannot say our X asks pard to bid his longest suit, it would be silly for him to bid with 2335 or the like.

Of course partner can pass with a balanced hand. After xx though and only 2 or 3 trumps he may think of bidding. I assume partner will play us for a 1444 hand.

sounds like it went down after DJ held and HQ was shifted to, unless declarer didnt have 4 red cards. You can't let these XXs scare you imo.
