Opps at team match played following convention (kind of extended Walsh?):
1♣-1M: 5-card Major
I don't know what the other sequences are, but can imagine:
1♣-1♦: 4-card Major
1♣-1NT: no 4-card Major

Is that a good agreement as addition to fi SAYC?

I hate this convention.

1) you can't bid diamonds naturally.
2) they can easily preempt you after 1C p 1D and you don't know which 4-4 fit you have.

There are other issues but these are the major ones for me. It works fine if the opps never bid, but unfortunately sometimes they do.

There's a 92 year old retired math professor that plays this at our club with his wife. He's a decent player too.

If you are paranoid about ever playing a 4-3 fit, this isn't a bad idea. Otherwise, I don't see a lot of rationale for it.

This is great when ur opponent doesnt interfere over 1D.
I dislike natural bidding that skip low bids too freqently, so it make sense that 1D will bid on more hands then 1M (unlike noral and very different from walsh).
I think this way will have problems after interferes over 1c-1d

I believe this is called "Montreal Relay", could be wrong.

I know two old ladies who play this. They never win, but I don't think that's because of this treatment.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

ETM Gold (non-premium version) uses the Montreal Relay:

See the sequences after the 1C opening. This method is simple and effective; however I believe the transfers approach used over 1C in ETM Gold Premuim is better.

The Montreal Relay was invented by an expert living in Montreal at the time: Eric Kokish. He does not use it anymore, even when his partners wish to do so, and he is happy it is not called the Kokish Relay.

Is the Montreal Relay legal in Canada?
The "Montreal Relay" is a treatment first popularized by Eric Kokish. Major openings promise 5+ cards; diamond opening promises 4+ cards; hence, when you hold a 4-4-3-2 opening hand, you must systemically open 1 Club. My mathematician friends tell me the one club is "short" no more than 10% of the time.

The 1D response is artificial denying a 5 card major. One of a major promises 5+ cards in the suit.

Today, Eric Kokish believes the "Montreal Relay" treatment is mostly for beginners. Notwithstanding that, Baran-Kokish still play it! So do I with a few of my partners (hey, I grew up in Montreal!).

Yes, of course it is "legal" -- in fact it is a general convention card treatment and can be played at any level in any ACBL game. Naturally, you must alert the "artificial" 1D response. Jonathan Steinberg, May 13, 1999 [/quote]

I found the bridge bidding book Some Issues of Intermediate Bridge and The Montreal Relay Plus System, by Al Rosenthal quite interesting.
