This thread is the place to make nominations throughout the year for the 2013 Posty Awards. Once again, when the end of the year approaches, I will organize the nominations and create voting polls. Feel free to voice your opinion here about how the voting should be done; up to this point I haven't used multiple rounds of voting, for example, but I am not opposed to the idea.

The categories are:

Poster of the Year (2012 winner: gnasher)
Newcomer of the Year (2012 winner: PhilKing)
Thread of the Year (2012 winner: Zelandakh's "Mandatory Falsecarding")
Individual Post of the Year (2012 winner: han's memories of the "Secret Bridge Olympics")
"Bridge in the Real World" Award (2012 winner: JLOGIC)
Most Helpful Poster for N/B Players (2012 winner: helene_t)

If a moderator could unpin last year's nomination thread and pin this one in its place, I would be grateful.
Revised Bridge Personality: 44 43 33 44

At the risk of alienating some very good people, I'd like to suggest a change to the "Bridge in the Real World" award.

We have on this forum some exceptional players, and a few of them earn either their living or at least a decent income from playing professionally. While I think that such players merit recognition for their successes, the reality is that an award that is based on real world bridge achievements is, almost by definition, going to go to the same people year after year. No amateur, other than a very wealthy person willing to pay a lot of money to his teammates, is likely ever going to win another world team championship in the foreseeable future, as one example. When was the last time a team of amateurs won any major team event at any of the ACBL Nationals, or at the European Championship?

I don't mean to detract at all from the Justins or the Freds of the world: they play at a remarkable level and they are successful pros because they are so good, rather than the other way around.. But I'd like to see an award, maybe in a separate category, to reflect the successes enjoyed by our non-professional players.

Separate category would be my choice. One for the Justins, Helenes, Freds and others who have "made their bones", and one for the Mbodells to own.

No idea why he didn't get nominated last year, time to make sure he doesn't get missed this year: Stephen Tu for most helpful for N/B players.

It's a slow-burner, but I agree it has huge potential.
