I'm curious about the negative double. Wouldn't you want to show your spades then your hearts to better describe your hand?

Unless opener rebids 1[NT], 2 would be forcing, and the hand isn't strong enough for that.

The only auction in which he wouldn't bid 1NT and we'd still have 2 as an option would be if he rebid 2. We're a passed hand and within a king of opening (old-fashioned thinking -- I'm used to thinking in terms of "a king more or less" than already shown), so how badly can partner mis-picture our hand?

Edit: Given that I've started with a negative double, I'd bid 3 directly over 2, because I'm strong enough and it makes it harder for one or the other opponent to compete.
