none of them, unless the 2 bid shows ... :D Btw, why can't we see our own hand? Sometimes that helps a lot!

The first one, with the second hand you just pass or very very maybe bid 5.
With the first hand if you want to TO you can bid 4 NT. But not with this type of hand.

Hand 2 is a typical hand. Hand 1 is a 1N overcall :)

Justin,
do you think hand 2 has the right hcp content for a maximal double *at the 4 level* opposite a silent p ?

I thought hand 2 would comply to a maximal double if the bidding comes back at the 2/3 level, but I would have expected that in order to double showing "cards" over 4S (which might often force a preference to the 5 level) I would need, say, at least a King more ? :)

Would my pass with hand 2 (over 4S) be too much conservative ?

Well with hand 2, it is unlikely passing out 4S will lead to your par result (I think) because you have so much potential for both offense and defense. If partner passes out your X (a likely scenario) and is broke it is likely you will be conceding 590. This is not a disaster as it won't cost many imps (unless they XX lol). However, partner could have a red suit queen, or even a king, or even more (the 4S bid will often just be based on long spades) and passing out 4S will be a disaster as they will have stolen the board. Partner could be broke but have a stiff club, and you may beat 4S anyways. Partner could have 3 clubs and be broke and find a good save. Partner could even have 3 clubs and the right 5 count for you to make a game (HK, DQ). Or pard could have a stiff club and some values and you may slaughter them. It seems like there is a lot of upside for Xing and the downside, while quite possible, is minimal.
