I have had several instances where I have attempted to ask opps what their bids mean in ACBL events.

example:
pass pass 3NT
queston:solid or broken suit
answer: well since I am in third seat and partner is passed hand it must be good enough to play at four level.

example:
1NT 2♠ 3♦
question: is the 3♦ bid forcing, non forcing, invitational?
Answer: its non forcing
TD's answer whats the problem 3♦ is standard.

Whats wrong with just telling it like it is? Solid minor suit on first, invitational or whatever on second.

all of the ACBL TD's preach all this stuff about ZERO Tolerance and so so, but when it comes to Full Disclosure some dont really take a stance.( I said some). We dont need baby sitters to get mad at a bad boy for swearing or for sitouts or red dots, but someone who is a referree to enforce the laws of bridge. If bridge Online is going to become like REALWORLD TABLE BRIDGE this aspect is very important.

You live in a wonderful world, pigpenz, if in your REALWORLD TABLE BRIDGE you never see this, from players or (sadly) from directors. I want to move there.

Two comments, however. First, in ACBL events, the proper question is "please explain". There are many reasons for this, not the least of which is your first example:

P-P-3NT.
Question: solid or broken suit
Answer: neither
Question: please explain
Answer: "I think I can make 3NT".

...and if it's not Alerted, it's probably not a solid or broken suit, it's big balanced, and the question will make no sense at all.

However, the answer you did get could very easily be accurate - and the extent of their agreements. In which case they've followed the rules (and he could have said, in perfect answer to your question, "no idea" and been accurate. Not full disclosure, but completely accurate answer to the question).

Second example is more bothersome. If you don't get the right information the first time, you can ask what you need; but there are those who don't understand the question, because they've never thought about it.

But if you ask "F, NF, or INV" and they answer "NF", what's the problem? You got your answer. If you want to make *sure* they mean "to play" instead of "NF invitation", then, if you don't ask "please explain", you need to ask the right question and not get upset when they answer the question you ask.

Your point is valid and I wish we could get better "full disclosure" from most bridge players. Unfortunately, we don't teach the rules of bridge when we teach people how to play the game, so they don't get it. We also don't teach (at least over here) that there are multiple ways to play, which causes much frustration when first a "sheltered" pair sees Precision, or weak notrumps, or ... as well as frustration because they don't understand your questions, because while they know what the bid means (sometimes) they don't know what else it could mean, so they don't understand how to answer you.

And yes, the frustration you and I experience when we want to know what kind of weak 2 bids our opponents are playing.

Now if you do that you are def. playing antifield. but opps should be aware of it too. Little alone how does your partner ever make an intelligent deciscion when you do that.

Hey, that's a *good* weak 2. A bad weak 2 is ♥QT732 :-) But yes, if they will do that, they need to let you know. And definately, if you ask style, they should tell you.
