My partner and I just finished playing a turney " August 1st " (title)..... contract was Xed... players were slow, time was running out, so I claimed 9 sure tricks, even though it was +1... opponents rejected claim...TIME RAN OUT!! We supposedely
got an average (i..e score for opps) i dont really understand averages in IMPS, but we lost on that board... (not that i care about scores.... big lie )we tried to call TD by private message, but he/she was on brb... no reply.. we tried to call thru TD button, nobody came to our rescue
A few players needed subs, but none available... finally a yellow came to the rescue and found subs... but he couldnt ajust, and we didnt ask, nor expected him to...
People complain about playing TD's, but that is the choice they make when they register, IF they read the tournament rules... I read the rules very carefully and i saw nothing that said "no TD available for this turney"...
I have never come across this on BBO...
IMO this TD should be warned not to run turneys if he/she is not going to be available..

I think Aisha is very right;-). I think tournaments (and especially their directors)like that should be banned form BBO, it leaves the players with nothing but frustration.

Yep, I think that unless he has a good excuse, he should lose his TD status. A good excuse would be a computer burnout (happened to me, but fortunately I had my notebook at home and was able to re-log so quickly that the players barely noticed my absence ...

maybe he lost his connection ever think of that, when the contest begins its a good idea to make the TD a friend so you can get back into the tourney incase you lose your connection, also if he lost his there wont be your msg showing up in chat window.

huh? why can't a td just do what's right whether you've made him your friend or not?

Special cases maybe and then only if the sub WANTS to be subbed. They need to know if they sub and get replaced too many times they will get a tournament ban for x days (if this is still in place).

no you have me all wrong what i am referring to is that fact that TD's lose their connections too, so by marking him as friend you can tell if hes still online by wether he shows up on the player board in purple. If hes not there then most likely he lost his connection.

Hi Pigpenz;
I know and understand very well about members having connection problems, even TD's
I did have TD as a friend, and could see him/her in lobby on BRB... so maybe he/she went to run a few errands and forgot about the turney....

In all the tourneys I've done, I've had this happen maybe a half dozen times. I get caught by a netsplit of something, OK but then I can't log back in. Ooooooh you have no idea how much it frustrates me, I'm on a high speed connection I can just imagine my tourney going into chaos, here it is a total failure: instead of doing something nice for players I've actually wasted their time.

One solution: multiple TDs. I've co-TD'ed many times (often for tourneys where the TD wanted to play). I think it should be encouraged. Rather than 2 TDs running 2 8 tables tourneys, the two of them should be running a 16 table tourney together.
But given everything that's just nice when it happens, you certainly can't depend on it. There's a few TDs I know well enough to have co-TD'ed with and enjoyed it. Some of the others now.....

I had an interesting situation too, my own fault. I actually misspelled my own name in the TD spot of the tournament setup. So I was there, but when people called the TD, it said No TD Available. It took several private messages asking me what was going on before I finally figured it out.

Useful thread here for a TD - spelling issues, disconnects by TD, etc. Would be great if there was a Case Book for TD's compiled about all the problems and possible fixes and best practices for TD's, that have appeared in these forums over time. A single source easily referenced that could be indexed and added to as new issues occur. The concerned director would have a great resource at their disposal - of course in the BBO environment - translation into other languages would be a good thing too.
