1st seat, teams, both vulnerable.

There's probably not a perfect answer but let's hear yours.

I never played Acol but I did read tons of Terrence Reese so I think in Reese-style Acol he would have opened this 2H. In this new world, I open 1H.

1st thought is wow great hand.

2nd thought is who the hell is the bast*** who stole a card from my hand.

After finding out and reclaiming what is mine, depending on whether I found a small non H, a small H or a big interesting card (A or Q S, Q H, A D or K C), my 1st call will be different.

1H. This is not going to go all pass and all actions by the other three players will tell me something that I expect will help.

1♥ or 4♣ Namyats depending on the 13th card.

There are not many cards you could add to this hand to sway me from 1♥.

Ok so it corresponds as an Acol 2 (7 cards. 8-8.5 playing tricks) which I can express (2C 2D 3H, with 2C strong but not GF in my country), although at quite a high level.

1H is a definite possibility as well and it could place us better to learn about partner and opps cards (although we probably need to jump to 3C or bid 2S next when partner does not pass, the latter risking partner chase us correcting H to S), and I would chose this absent this strong but not GF option.

A GF call would clearly be an overbid.

1♥ unless you're playing a strong club or Acol 2♥ I don't see any alternative, yes you're making game opposite Qxx, xxx, xxx, xxxx, but a GF bid is too much

My table.

OT

It was a shocker, -10. C'est la vie. I am happy with my opening.

That’s quite a remarkable pass by east! I wonder: did south take longer than usual to bid?

I would open 2♣ with that hand. SF for me (2♦ GF). If I have only 2♣ GF then still 2♣. I prefer to open strong when I have enough points (17+) and partner needs only a Q to give game a good chance.

East must be one of those players who will only double with 12hcp and overcall with 11hcp

I would not pass with the N hand, respond an "Acol" NF 1N (and I might double that with the E hand)
