MPs, all green, partner deals and opens 1S, RHO overcalls 2D and you have an awkward hand:

K
JT9xx
9xxx
AQT

What would you do and how would you follow up?

I will pass 2♠
In the days where we opening the bidding with a good 13 count, this would be a 2♥ bid. Not so nowadays :)

Thanks!

I weighted X (but was not at ease to pass the most common 2S reply) and hesitated with pas hoping partner might balance.

I took too much time to pass (and put partner in a difficult situation should she consider bidding in the pass out seat) so decided to X and f up with 2NT hoping the D would block or partner might have some stop. In retrospect, if it is not to pass 2S, 2H would be better at least it shows the 5 cards. And if you confidently pass with the sg K, so should I.

Anyway, partner with a non descript 5323 13 count decided she was worth 3NT, and I quickly lost 5 D tricks and the HA.

My bid was poor but we had a chance to recover she can bid 3H (supposedly forcing, choice between 3NT and 4H in case I had what I had but with the DK vs SK).

A bad board as there were some 4H going down only 1 and more stopping in a H part score.
