Hi There,

I played the ACBL Regional today for $30. I was bounced off the system three times. I was watching a Ping stream and there were no problems with the Internet.

I have a hard time staring at the BBO screen for 6 minutes while waiting for the end of a round. I will switch tabs to work on my email while listening for the "Card Dealing" sound. The problem is the "Card Dealing" sound never happens -- I get logged off the system instead.

I understand this is likely the correct behavior with a random user that is not playing a tourney. I would say that I am committed to playing after spending $30. Would it be possible for a TD to place BBO into "Tournament Mode" so users are not bounced from the system? This would be a great improvement to the software!

Thanks, Greg

When you switch away from the BBO tab, the BBO tab is put into a low priority mode. In this state, it stops responding to the periodic connection checks that the server makes, and the server thinks you've lost your connection.

This is something browsers do automatically, I don't think there's a way for us to override it. We would have to get rid of the connection checks entirely, which seems worse.

Previously you suggested that the browsers were sleeping the tab, which is something they introduced a few years ago but also allowed users to configure: I (with chrome) disallowed it for BBO, but BBO timed out nevertheless, as I pointed out many times.

Now you say there is a "low priority" mode which blocks the checks (meaning no IP packet reception?): maybe you could provide some link about this browser behaviour?

I'm talking about the same thing, just slightly different terminology.

I'm not familiar with the configuration setting you say you changed.

Why was this posted in the Tournament Directors forum? You were a player, it has little to do with directing tournaments.
