I don't have an issue with 2 regardless of the state of the match

If you want to bid 2 fine by me. I would tend to think that it is unlikely, opposite a passed partner, that you are going to buy the contract so you are giving information to the opposition for little benefit.

Weak jump, at this vul can be a lot worse than this, but actually depends what 2 bids I'm playing as to whether it's worth it.

You probably don't get back from 34 down by not doing anything

Depends on when it is in the match. 4th quarter is the only time I’m even tempted to bid and even then I think it’s a mistake. That spade holding screams danger

Agreed, probably late 4th Q and it hasn't got better

If you're down 34, going down another 10 isn't going to help. Best move is to play and bid better, including passing now. I don't mind late round heroics, but it takes the right hand to do it, bidding the lucky slam or making a speculative double. Sticking your head in the noose and kicking off the stool in hopes of learning to fly isn't my idea of heroic.

If we desperately need some swings, I would consider 3H to force them to make a guess, hopefully pushing them too high or into the wrong suit. It's the right vulnerability for it, we are not missing game opposite a passed, and the trump quality is decent (which makes doubling us harder).

Only if we are so far behind good bridge alone probably won't get us back into the match though.

One interesting note is that the two tables in this match play substantially different systems (Polish Club at one table, short club with xfer responses at the other). This being the case, you probably don’t have to create “action” to catch up — there will be plenty of system related swings.

Q3 I'm not in this auction

and while I might bid like a junior, I'm just over 60 with 50+ years of experience
