With heart protected, why not 6N?

Because I don't know how many spades my partner has, nor whether diamonds behave, nor whether my opponents will lead a heart.
Spades rates to have more certain play and this is IMPs.

I don't quite get this concern. Why doesn't this auction simply go:
2C-2S
3S-4H
5N-7S?

What else do you need to know other than first round heart control and at least KQxxx of spades?

I agree more with that.

My concern was about 6NT. Imagine East with 5 spades KQ and an opp with 4 diamonds.

You may have missed the preceding posts. It makes no difference here.

I agree that 7S is very likely.

If I don't know about the first round control, I can understand the thought of NT. It really gets down to agreements on the 2S bid. Is it made on KQxxx, xxx, xx, xxx?
Other than that, I'm going to play in spades provided there is no way to differentiate between void and A of hearts. You don't want to guess in 7.

Late to the party, but I believe a positive should have something more than just "5 to 2/top 3". If *just* that, then "and a card". Maybe that card is the sixth spade. Maybe it's an outside A or K, or possibly some Q. Maybe it's AKQxx (or at worst, KQJTx).

So while I like 3, I don't see what partner will tell me that will be useful that 4NT won't. Yes, if I have Mike's agreement that specifically shows the A rather than any other control, great.

That's what I said to myself as I was reading. And then I saw the hand. I'm going to get lucky, aren't I? :-)

This auction could go various ways depending on whether we showed a positive, normally an ace and a king or a little more if balanced, or a negative.

It's very difficult to bid in unbiased fashion seeing both hands

2-2-3 somewhat snookers E as we don't show voids the same way as most do to the keycard ask, and the danger is that partner assumes I must have A and bids 7N, so I may have to go straight to 5.
