Traditionally, I don't think 2♠ is forcing but rather "constructive." How strong can "constructive" be? What's the modern approach here? With such aggressive competitive bidding nowadays, has anything changed?

My approach here is that two level bids after a one-level overcall by partner (including here) are at least invitational opposite a full opener from partner, but are not forcing when partner has less than an opening bid. This makes the range roughly 9-14 points; the expectation is that partner will usually pass if he wouldn't have opened in 1st seat (barring a great fit), but will not pass when holding a real opening.

I guess if you're playing with a lot of pick up partners, the current fashion is understandable. Otherwise, your choices are your own, and the range of the overcall would determine strengths of responses.

2S also showes 5 1/2+ cards in the suit, sometimes you dont have this many cards in the suit.
If all sides bid, the strength is roughly divided 20/20.

2S says: bid on, if we have found a fit, otherwise shut up, 2S also denies 3+ hearts.
X says: I want to compete, but have no suit of my own, and no primary support for your suit,
suggest one. Most of the time it will be bal., with 4+-4+ in the und bid suit, and 2 hearts.
