I understand not bidding 3H on the auction, although that’s not clear. But wouldn’t you agree that using 2S over 2C to show six spades and short clubs would have made life easier? Plus what would north bid over 3D with AKQJx Jxxx Qxx x? Or (if you say he introduces that heart suit) make it 5=3=3=2. After all, wtf is west bidding over the redouble with say xxxxxx xx xx Qxx, catching east with x Jxx A10xx AQJxx.

Ok, I’m describing low frequency holdings but I hope you can see that the refusal to bid one’s hand over 2C is not exactly good bridge.

Btw, keycard is not great unless opener promises at least 4 diamonds. South knows that dummy is getting tapped at trick two and if east has A10xx in diamonds, you’re in a world of hurt. And wtf is wrong with bidding 4H over 4D, unless your responder is one of the seemingly infinite number of players who think that it’s immoral to look for slam other than by using keycard.

I agree that the methods that lead to hiding our sixth spade over 3 clubs are not great, hence in part the post. I will move to some transfer scheme when partners permit.

I also agree that 4 over 4 should be obvious here. With this partner we have changed agreements a few times about Kickback over minors so maybe he was concerned about how I would interpret the bid.

But the other reason for the post was the play problem.

I posted it as two seperate discussions, for the actual 6 and for the more frequent 6.

Nobody got either right.
