Musing over slam bidding I was wondering what sort of percentage people were running at this year.

For example, played 20 sessions, 5 slams made, 25%

Not going back to check a load, but played 4 sessions over the last but one weekend:

Bid 4, made 3 including a grand, one of the 3 made should have been bid to 7, stopped in 5M twice, made both on the nose.

Sounds like a successful few sessions. Bridgewebs has a set-up which can track slams. I don't know how many clubs use it. I find my percentage varies by partner, but that could be a function of old school Acol vs 5-card Majors

My point was that slams bid and made is not the most important stat to collect:

Slams bid and not made, also whether you want to be in them.

Slams not bid that you want to be in.

plus some of the others I listed above and also if you made a bad slam, that's not a good thing going forward although it may be on the night

I have a record of the hands played by Jimmy Cayne on BBO between 2011 and 2021.

I'm not going to examine every slam hand, but restricting the hands to those where his side opened at the one-level, 2, or 2NT (which must reduce the number of sacrifices), his side played 2,641 hands at the six- or seven-level and made 2,150 of them.

The data is not completely reliable as I have one hand that is reported as 6+3 Posted Image
The Beer Card

I don't work for BBO and any advice is based on my BBO experience over the decades

You don't become a bridge champion by limiting yourself to 13 tricks. :)
