Also, I think reaching 4S is nuts. It’s a terrible contract. I assume it made because south led a club or a heart, probably the latter.

My auction would be dependent on who I’m playing with. With my main partner, 1C 1H 1 N 2H 2S P. 1H shows spades, 1 N is 16-19, 2-3 spades. 2H retransfers, and then I pass.

With someone else, it would be 1C 1 S 2N 3C 3D 3S P, playing Wolff over 2N…I don’t like Wolff but I usually play what partner is comfortable with. With still other partners, 1C 1S 2n 3H 3S P. Where 3H is a transfer. Transfers over 2N rebids are far more powerful than Wolff or new minor.

any suit bid is a terrible hand 2♥/2♠ are both in the frame

2♠ will be passed, 2♥ might be passed or might be raised to 3, but no danger we play game.

I was west here, we didn't have any methods to put the breaks on after 2nt and partner chose to force game in spades.
I was pondering what I would have done sitting East, I like to think that I would transfer and stop in 3S.
More experienced partnerships playing complex methods can of course make better informed decisions.

If East answers 1♦ (Dutch Doubleton) instead we get out at 2♠, but I wouldn't.

Agree 1♣-2♠ 4-8 is a better start and showing a min. after a 2N ask gets the stop in 3♠. The problem is I'm likely to unwisely show the 64xx so still end up in 4♠
