I lead a heart. Partners X means "we are beating this on a heart lead." Asking for a non heart lead is absurd when he went out of his way to X 5H. If he didn't want that lead, he shouldn't have Xed.

Jlall: now ask yourself
if partner had doubled final contract only what would double mean?
If he had doubled only 5 hearts what would that mean?
If he doubles 5 hearts and final contract what does that mean?

There are never any really correct right or wrong answers at this game but what is partner trying to say <_<

If he Xs only 5H that says he wants a heart lead.
If he Xs only 6S I would lead a club since it's likely he is void.
If he Xs both he wants a heart lead and thinks its going down.

i lead the ♣2... my take is, if he wanted the heart lead he should not double the final contract... why double the final? now it's redoubled.. why? maybe declarer thinks you're leading a heart

isnt bridge interesting
so as the other hand how do you get partner to:
1. lead a diamond
2. lead a heart
3. lead a club

these type of hands where opps bid slams we can beat off the top dont come up that often most of the ones i have seen like this have usually been in the master solvers forum in Bridge World. But at the table how do we solve them????

Just some food for thought B)

if we want a non heart lead we should not X 5H. It's that simple.

first x = "lead a heart"
second x = "lead a heart and we should set"

Now the question comes as to the redouble. does that say don't lead a heart? (ie, the guy saying he's void?) As i tend to trust partner ore than opps (maybe i've played against too many juniors), I'm still leading a heart. Which one is an interesting question.

I agree with trusting partner over the opps completely.

your lead?

You redoubled partner's dbl and everybody at the table agrees. When the hand is played the TD is called. Say it went -1. Will the result be 6Sxx-1 or 6Sx-1? You are giving the TD a hard time. B)
Or was your Redbl SOS (meaning 'I don't know what I will have to lead' )?
=======
At IMP's I don't think partner's DBL should be penalty. He already asked for a Heart lead with his first DBL. With his second DBL he asks for another lead. Maybe he first doubled H, with the intention to DBL again. So it is now clear that he is asking not H, but D or C. It has to be C here.
At MP's the second DBL is penalty and you go for a H lead.

How many more sand dunes are we going to knock down in the interests of high-rise hotels or luxury homes?

partner said "lead a heart!". Opp said, "OK, I'm ready for that".
partner said, "Oh, yeah? Well. lead a heart, partner, and we'll see, dammit!"
and opps has said, "hmm, lemme see if I can talk you out of it."

Sorry, I trust my partner, especially when partner kicks me in the shins twice on the same auction. Will now need cutches for a week. Partner heard the 6 spade bid. If I don't lead heart I might also need a coroner after P kills me. Unless there is some new modern meaning to these doubles, partner can't recommend one lead with the first double and then suddenly change his/her mind and tell you to lead something else with the second double.

That depends on who partner is. And even then...

ewen shows this very auction in his book on leads.... he says that the double of hearts was lead directional, and the final double isn't necessary (since the cost/risk doesn't pay), so to double the final is lightner... of course, that's just his take

If I can't trust partner then why am I playing with them? Unless it's sex or money, I really shouldn't be

You're playing with him because you like to play bridge. You're not playing with him because he's so friggin' brilliant.

Anyway, the point is this game is not just about trusting partner. Bridge is a 4-handed game, where partners can fail, and it's up to the players to judge who is more like to be talking serious, pard or opps. And it so happens sometimes it's the opps who should be given more credit...

Another of these situations where it's a good idea to have discussed it with partner.
I play that the first double suggests a heart lead, and the second double suggests it really is going off on a heart lead, so I lead a heart.

Yes, you could argue that partner has 3 options: double 5H and 6S, double 5H and not 6S, double 6S, so he can suggest all 3 side-suits. But this isn't really true, because when he doubles 5H he doesn't know that they are going to bid a slam. If he doubles 5H and they stop in 5S, you are going to lead a heart, and he looks pretty silly (particularly at matchpoints) if he actually wanted a club lead and was being clever but has cost the contract/overtrick as a consequence.

I ignore the redouble. As a side note, if you think it is roughly 40%+ to make, it's right to redouble slams at imps. Suppose they are in a vul 6H doubled at the other table. If it's one off you lose 5 imps (-400 against -200). If it makes you gain 9 imps (2070 vs 1660). If it's going two off, that's another matter of course, but freely bid lightner doubled slams don't usually go more than one off (I took one for 800 on a cross-ruff once, but that's a different story).

If he Xs both it means he's picked up his hand from the next board and now it's fouled. :P

it seems to me that doubling for penalties only (ie, that's your reason for doubling) is only right when the slam won't make and is not going to be bid at most tables.. but if it isn't going to be bid, and if it won't make if it is bid, you automatically have gone positive over most tables

take the other scenerio, the majority of the other tables bid the slam... this means it's the "right" bid.. by doubling a 'right' bid, you can increase your score by 50 or 100 points (assuming off one)... however, what if it makes? and now, what if it makes *redoubled*?

the double of hearts mapped the defense, imo... to now double simply because you think you can set it seems to me to risk more than you can gain... if it *does* go off on a heart lead, just pass... partner will lead a heart

anyway, that's the way it seems to me
