This refers to the tournaments (40 participants, every half hour) that BBO runs for free on the website.

* I used to believe that ADV robots were offered to participants in the past, even though this was a free tournament. Am I wrong about this?
** I played in a few of these in the past 3-4 days. I get a sense that robot play has deteriorated. Are robots deployed at these free tourneys the downgraded one?

Perhaps you've improved?
I thought all free tourneys used impuissant robots.

There haven't been any recent changes to the robots used in these tournaments.

Could you please state clearly which robots are used in which types of tournaments and in what roles (paid partner, substitute, system-enrolled opponent)?
There has been some confusion about this in the past.

The general rule is that if you pay for the tourney, you get advanced robots in all roles. If it's a free tourney, you get basic robots.

There might be some exceptions, but I don't know them offhand.

Thanks.

I sometimes play a free tournament with a hired robot: I trust that is an exception and I get advanced.

I've gotten a correction. Robot partners in human tournaments are always advanced, regardless of whether it's a free or pay tourney.
