I considered a double but was worried about having it taken out
I don't know if people regard GiB as unlucky but it seems a bit strange - we both had rather light game forcing hands

I don't like opening 2 on very distributional two suiters especially when the HCP is not that high. I would open 1 and bid the spades next time, twice if possible.

As discussed on another recent thread, I'm against over regulation of strong 2, but I don't see how you can consider this hand game forcing, or what is wrong with a natural 1 opening.
4 is silly.

There is a recent book (see above link) by Ken Rexford which has a suggestion for showing 2 suiters more easily.
2 is a Strong opening 21+ hcp or less if shapely and promises 4+
It makes it easy to bid 4 5+ minor/5 hands and you can agree a minor below 3NT or go 4 of minor for slam try in minor

This means you deny 4 in your 2 opening unless you are 25+ hcp balanced
Similarly you can now show 4 5+ minor hands by going 2-2-2.

His methods also handle also handle 4441 and 5+M 5+ side hands.

The only cost is your weak or Flannery 2 bid and a bit of memory
Sarcasm is a state of mind

A clear 1c opening in my book. No need for a convention on this hand.

I did fare better than anyone else with my pre-emptive style, and I have sympathy for the East bot - 50:50 spades vs hearts
